PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - Portsmouth Mayor Jack Blalock has announced that the New Hampshire city’s longtime city manager will be out on medical leave for six to eight weeks.

The Portsmouth Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2hUEQne ) Deputy City Manager Nancy Colbert Puff will serve as acting city manager until John Bohenko returns to duty.

Blalock on Wednesday declined to share any information regarding Bohenko’s condition. The mayor said residents shouldn’t be overly concerned.

City councilor Eric Spear says Puff can lean on Blalock and the veteran city staff that Bohenko assembled while he’s away. Puff was town manager for Kittery, Maine before accepting her current position in Portsmouth.

Blalock said the city’s day-to-day operations will continue as usual as well as work conducted by the City Council.

Bohenko has served as city manager for 19 years.
