PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says it evacuated a 76-year-old woman from a cruise ship off the North Carolina coast after she experienced abdominal pains.

A statement from the Coast Guard said it was notified by the captain of the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas on Wednesday that a passenger was experiencing abdominal pains. The ship was about 20 miles northeast of Oregon Inlet.

The Coast Guard’s 5th District Command Center dispatched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter air crew from Air Station Elizabeth City. The crew hoisted the woman and her daughter to the helicopter and transported them to Norfolk Sentara Hospital. There was no word on the woman’s condition.
