LOS ANGELES (AP) - Sophomores Prince Ali and Alex Olesinski have decided to redshirt this season for No. 4 UCLA.

Neither player has appeared in a game this season, although both have resumed practicing for the Bruins. The team announced the news on Wednesday night.

Ali underwent surgery last summer to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The guard from the Bronx averaged 3.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 29 games last season.

Olesinski, a forward from Roswell, New Mexico, has been out with a stress reaction in his left foot since early November. He averaged 1.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in 23 games last season.

Even without Ali and Olesinski, UCLA has plenty of bench depth with eight players getting regular minutes.

The Bruins (14-1, 1-1 Pac-12) play California on Thursday night in their first league home game of the season.
