The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee said Tuesday President Trump’s claims of rampant voter fraud in the 2016 election have been debunked, but said he still expects the ridiculous claims to continue.
“The next thing we are going to hear is that unicorns voted,” Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont said during a committee hearing where lawmakers were scheduled to vote on Mr. Trump’s nomination of Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions to be attorney general.
In the wake of his electoral college victory, Mr. Trump has maintained that election was littered with voter fraud. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote.
Mr. Leahy said Mr. Sessions is selling himself short by not coming out against Mr. Trump’s charge.
