SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - About 100 people - many of them teachers - recently gathered in downtown Salt Lake City to protest President Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of education.

Demonstrators said U.S. Secretary of Education nominee Besty DeVos’ lack of public education experience makes her a poor choice for the position. They gathered outside the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building on Monday, calling on Utah’s Republican Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee to vote against DeVos.

In a speech to the protesters, Utah Education Association President Heidi Matthews called the DeVos nomination “unacceptable.”

The rally was organized by Utah Indivisible, which describes itself of Twitter as a grass-roots movement dedicated to resisting Trump’s agenda. Monday’s event marked the third straight day that people gathered in Salt Lake City to protest Trump’s actions.
