BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Several hundred people have gathered in Burlington to speak out against President Donald Trump’s immigration orders and show support for refugees and immigrants affected by his directives.

The Republican president has called for suspending the admission of Syrian refugees until the program can ensure that their admission “is consistent with the national interest.”

Demonstrators marched and rallied at City Hall Park on Sunday. The Burlington Free Press reports protesters chanted slogans including, “No hate, no fear, refugees are welcome here.”

Many held signs with messages such as, “Refugees make America great again” and, “Lead with love, not fear.”

Mayor Miro Weinberger told the crowd the number of people speaking out against the order matters and has already made an impact.
