CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois transportation officials say $4 million in state and federal funds will be used to conduct bridge inspections in Chicago.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the funding Monday. It includes $800,000 in state money and $3.2 million in federal funds.
The money will allow the city to conduct a variety of required inspections on bridges. Results will help city and state officials identify problems and prioritize improvements and repairs.
Illinois has the more than 26,000 bridges statewide. State Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn says the Chicago bridge inspection funding will “go a long way in giving residents peace of mind that inspections of critical structures in Chicago are meeting federal guidelines.”
