TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey appeals court has reversed the 2014 vehicular homicide conviction of a Union County woman.

Amie Marroccelli of Union Township was sentenced to seven years for the 2010 crash in Somerset County that killed 22-year-old Steven Wall of Clinton.

The court ruled Monday that the trial judge should have allowed Marroccelli to introduce a note from her husband that said he was driving the car on the night of the accident.

Marroccelli had testified that she and her husband concocted the story that she was driving because he had a previous drunken driving conviction. He also was worried about losing custody of his child from a previous marriage.

Marroccelli said she asked him to write the note after she learned she would be charged with Wall’s death.
