TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Republican Assembly Leader Jon Bramnick says he will not be running for governor.

Bramnick, who was weighing whether to jump into the race to succeed Republican Gov. Chris Christie, said he would instead focus on re-election and picking up seats in the Assembly.

The Westfield Republican says he is not making an endorsement in the primary contest now. Already running is Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli. Republican Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno has said she is also considering a run.

Bramnick, an attorney who has also performed as a stand-up comic, served in the Assembly since 2003 and as leader since 2012. He’s been a loyal supporter of Christie’s policies, including overhauling the public pension and cutting taxes.

Among Democrats, former Goldman Sachs executive Phil Murphy and Assemblyman John Wisniewski are competing.
