Primetime host Megyn Kelly is leaving Fox News to take on a broader role at NBC News, it was announced Tuesday.
As part of the multiyear agreement, Mrs. Kelly will host her own daytime news program on weekdays as well as anchor a new evening show on Sundays, NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack said.
“Megyn is an exceptional journalist and news anchor, who has had an extraordinary career,” Mr. Lack said in a statement. “She’s demonstrated tremendous skill and poise, and we’re lucky to have her.”
Mrs. Kelly will also serve as an “important contributor” to NBC’s political and breaking news coverage, the company said in a press release.
Details about both of Mrs. Kelly’s news programs are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
Mrs. Kelly, who joined Fox News 12 years ago and currently hosts “The Kelly File” on weekday evenings, turned down a $20 million annual salary to continue at Fox, The New York Times reported. Her contract is not officially up until the summer.
Mrs. Kelly confirmed the move in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
“Over a dozen years ago I started at Fox News in a job that would change my life. Now, I have decided to end my time at FNC, incredibly enriched for the experiences I’ve had,” she said.
“While I will greatly miss my colleagues at Fox, I am delighted to be joining the NBC news family and taking on a new challenge,” she added. “I remain deeply grateful to Fox News, to Rupert, Lachlan and James Murdoch, and especially to all of the FNC viewers, who have taught me so much about what really matters.”
