WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - New cranes that officials say will help unload ships more quickly are going up at the Port of Wilmington.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports (https://delonline.us/2jh3JMf) that workers have begun to build the two new 20-story tall gantry cranes at the state-owned port. The new cranes will work alongside two older cranes already in use.

Gene Bailey is executive director of the Diamond State Port Corporation, which oversees port operations. He tells the newspaper that the new cranes will allow the port to provide its customers with “better service and position the port to handle additional cargos.”

Bailey says officials also hope the new cranes will cut costs for customers because they’ll be able to get in out and out of the port more quickly.
