NBC’s “Today” show will be trimmed down by one hour in order to open up an hour for Megyn Kelly’s new weekday program, Page Six reported Friday, citing an unnamed insider who said the plan has program staff angry with upper management.
“If she takes over Hoda [Kotb] and Kathie Lee’s 10 a.m. hour, they will move to the 9 a.m. hour,” the source said, reported Page Six. Alternately, Ms. Kelly could get the 9 a.m. slot.
But either way, staffers at the 65-year-old morning news program are not thrilled according to the NewsCorp gossip site.
“Everyone has been left in the dark and no one knows why there’s such a disruption when shows are doing so well across the board,” the site quoted an unnamed source.
“People are pissed,” another unnamed source told Page Six. “The third hour was beating every syndicated show across the board. They were in over their head and bit off more than they can chew when they hired Megyn.”
In addition to her weekday program, Ms. Kelly will also anchor a Sunday evening program on the NBC network as well as participate in breaking news and political-event coverage, according to a network news release earlier this month.
Ms. Kelly, an upstate New York native who practiced law in Chicago and New York prior to pursuing a broadcasting news career, ended her 12-year run with Fox News on Friday, Jan. 6.
