SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say a man sought in a knife attack that critically wounded his girlfriend in Nevada was arrested in Utah after a half-hour vehicle chase and a standoff that prompted officers to use tear gas and a dog to apprehend him.

Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke tells the Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/2kb58DG ) that 35-year-old Ronny Wesley Withers apparently cut himself on the neck and arms before he was pulled from a van and taken into custody late Thursday in Taylorsville.

Withers was hospitalized pending transfer to the Salt Lake County jail, a court appearance and extradition to Nevada.

Withers is sought by authorities in North Las Vegas in a Tuesday evening attack on a 28-year-old woman who told police that Withers broke her car window, pepper-sprayed her and stabbed her in the neck.
