PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The state Bureau of Labor and Industries has directed nearly $18,000 to 11 people who worked on a film that ran out of money last summer.

The agency directed payments through the state’s Wage Security Fund, which helps workers obtain back wages from businesses unable to meet payroll.

Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian said Friday the employees were working on the set of the action-adventure film “V Force: New Dawn of V.I.C.T.O.R.Y.”

Fifteen workers filed wage claims after filming stopped in August. Two investigations remain open and two workers were deemed independent contractors and ineligible for Wage Security Fund payments.

Oregon is of only two states to have such a fund. It’s funded through the state’s employment tax paid by employers.

After distributing money from the fund, the labor agency still tries to recover the wages owed from the business.
