RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A second Democratic legislator picked to join Gov. Roy Cooper’s Cabinet has officially resigned from the General Assembly.
The resignation letter of Rep. Susi Hamilton of Wilmington was read on the House floor Thursday. Cooper named Hamilton last week to lead the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
The House clerk’s office received Tuesday a resignation letter dated Jan. 16 from Durham Democrat Larry Hall, who is now secretary for military and veterans’ affairs.
Democrats in Durham and New Hanover counties will choose their successors in the House.
Cooper has now announced eight of his 10 Cabinet secretaries. Spokeswoman Noelle Talley says each of those named has been sworn in to the jobs except for Hamilton. Cooper has challenged in court a new law subjecting the secretaries to Senate confirmation.
