BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A state official says composites and plastics manufacturer Teknor Apex plans to expand its Brownsville operations by investing $32 million in a distribution facility.

Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd says the expansion will create 50 new jobs in Haywood County.

Teknor Apex produces compounds, composites and plastics. It currently manufactures products at its 1 million square-foot Brownsville facility for its nylon, vinyl, chemical and garden hose divisions.

Officials said Wednesday that Teknor Apex plans to build a 200,000 square-foot distribution facility in the Brownsville-Haywood County Industrial Park. The expansion will allow Teknor Apex to grow the manufacturing units within its existing plant.

Teknor Apex is headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Officials say the company first established operations in Brownsville in 1971.
