HOUSTON (AP) - Brandan Stith had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Zoran Talley scored 15, and Randy Haynes added 14 points and Old Dominion beat Rice 80-72 on Thursday night to end a two-game losing streak.
Old Dominion (12-8, 5-3 Conference USA) led 39-29 at halftime and led by double figures until the final 50 seconds of play. Rice has lost four of its last six games.
B.J. Stith finished with 12 points and Ahmad Caver had 11 for the Monarchs which shot 54 percent (32 for 59) from the field and outscored the Owls 38-8 inside.
Marcus Evans led Rice (13-8, 3-5) with 23 points on 6-for-7 shooting from 3-point range. Marcus Johnson had 17 points, and Egor Koulechov added 12 points for the Owls. Rice finished shooting 20 for 53 (38 percent) from the floor.
The Monarchs held a 42-29 edge on the boards and collected 12 on the offensive end. Old Dominion entered the game ranked seventh in the country for offensive boards averaging 14.6 per game.
