MACON, Miss. (AP) - A county in eastern Mississippi has agreed to clean up its voter rolls but says there is no evidence that illegal votes have ever been cast.

The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/2kojE8d ) reports the American Civil Rights Union had filed a lawsuit in 2015 that Noxubee County’s voter rolls included more people registered to vote than there were county residents of voting age.

Noxubee County Election Commission attorney Wilbur Colom says the county followed the law in maintaining their voter rolls and never found evidence of illegal ballots.

Nevertheless, Colom says the county agreed to settle the dispute Tuesday by identifying any dead voters still on the rolls as well as anyone who no longer live in the county.

Those who haven’t voted in five years will potentially be asked to list their current address.
