ATLANTA (AP) - An Atlanta man has admitted to his role in a bribery scheme involving city contracts.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (https://on-ajc.com/2kwc6DH) that federal prosecutors last week accused 63-year-old Elvin R. Mitchell Jr. of paying more than $1 million in bribes to get city contracts.
He was arraigned on bribery and money laundering charges. He pleaded guilty in court Wednesday.
Mitchell owns several construction companies and prosecutors say he and another person paid more than $1 million from 2010 to August 2015 to a person in exchange for city of Atlanta contracts. Prosecutors say they believed some of the money would be paid to a city official with influence over the contracting process.
Mitchell’s attorney Craig Gillen says his client made mistakes and has admitted to them. Mitchell did not comment.
