Angered by recent anti-media comments from Steve Bannon, the creator of the Netflix political melodrama “House of Cards” urged his Twitter followers to flood the Trump adviser’s White House office with snail mail.
“Steve Bannon just inspired today’s action. Everyone write down the 1st Amendment on a postcard and mail it to his office at the White House,” tweeted “House of Cards” creator and former executive producer Beau Willimon on Thursday.
The writer left the crew of the show in 2016 to focus his energies on writing on a new play, according to Hollywood Reporter last February.
“Hand-write the 1st Amendment and mail it to Steve Bannon’s office at the White House,” Mr. Willimon wrote minutes later. “Tweet photos of your letter too. Address:” he added, including a photo with the mailing address.
Mr. Willimon was prompted to action by a New York Times article quoting Mr. Bannon’s criticism of the mainstream media’s coverage of President Trump’s first few days in office.
The TV producer was particularly upset with a quote from Mr. Bannon in which the former Breitbart executive chairman told The New York Times that the “media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while.”
“The media here is the opposition party,” Mr. Bannon added. “They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”
For his part, the “House of Cards” creator tweeted that the “media’s job is to challenge” Mr. Trump.
“Pay Atrention [sic]. This is your WH Senior Advisor, everyone. When they try to silence us, we will only get louder,” Mr. Willimon wrote in another tweet.
