SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah’s chief justice is calling for lawmakers to continue their work on judicial reforms by funding treatment options for drug offenders.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2jq7pK3 ) that during his annual State of the Judiciary address on Monday Utah Supreme Court Chief Justice Matthew Durrant praised legislators for passing judicial reforms that focus on treatment rather than incarceration but said there was still work to be done on the funding side.
Durrant said that the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice is planning to suggest juvenile-justice reforms, but said those plans should only be passed if they can by fully funded.
