ROBINSVILLE, N.J. (AP) - State police say major injuries were averted when a car carrier burst into flames while traveling along a southbound stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike in Mercer County.
The truck caught fire not far from Exit 7A in Robbinsville just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters from the Robbinsville Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. The blaze was declared under control by 8 p.m.
State police say there were 10 cars on the carrier at the time and at least half of them were damaged.
The driver of the vehicle managed to escape safely. WCAU-TV reports one firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury. No one else was reported hurt.
State police are continuing to investigate the incident.
