ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Police in Alexandria are looking for people who want to participate in the Alexandria Police Citizens Academy.

The city says participants in the 10-week class will learn about patrol operations, gangs, crime prevention, crime scene investigations and criminal investigations.

The city says classes begin on March 8 and will be held at the department’s headquarters.

The program is free but participants are being asked to volunteer for a minimum of 10 hours per year post graduation. That might include helping with parades or road races.

The city says the class is limited to about 20 participants who must be at least 21 years of age and live or work in Alexandria. Applications are available at: https://www.alexandriava.gov/Police
