SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - State officials are warning drivers to be alert on Interstate 89 in South Burlington as crews remove trees and perform other work this week.
The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2kcIQyx ) trees will be cleared at two locations in order to build a temporary two-lane diversion within the median.
Officials say the diversions will affect northbound traffic first, but drivers heading in both directions will probably experience construction work until the fall.
The state Agency of Transportation says the road work is part of a culvert replacement project.
The agency says the 50-year-old culverts that now convey branches of Potash Brook beneath the interstate are undersized and deteriorating.
Construction is planned to start later this year.
State officials say the project will cost about $8 million.
