ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Steve Taylor Jr. had 25 points, 15 rebounds and five assists to help Toledo beat Ohio 79-76 on Tuesday night.
Taylor made a hook shot in the lane to extend Toledo’s lead to 76-73 with 2:25 to go. Both teams went scoreless for the next minute until Toledo’s Nate Navigato hit two free throws with 1:16 left. Gavin Block answered on the other end with a 3-pointer to pull Ohio to 78-76.
After two empty possessions Toledo’s Jonathan Williams was fouled with 19.3 to go. He made 1 of 2 and, after a timeout, Jason Carter missed an open 3-pointer off a nice pass from Jaaron Simmons.
Williams finished with 15 points and five assists for Toledo (11-9, 4-3 Mid-American). Navigato had 12 and Jaelan Sanford 11.
Carter scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Ohio (12-6, 4-3). Simmons had 17 points and 10 assists, and Jordan Dartis hit three 3-pointers and scored 13.
