MIAMI (AP) - North American Aerospace Defense Command aircraft will be practicing intercept and identification procedures during flight exercises over north Florida.
NORAD officials said in a news release that the exercises are scheduled between 10 a.m. and noon on Tuesday between Inverness in Citrus County and Greenville in the Florida Panhandle.
Officials say residents may see or hear low-flying NORAD-controlled fighter jets in close proximity to civilian aircraft. The civilian aircraft will be taking the role of an aircraft of interest during the exercises.
Weather could delay the exercise for 24 hours.
The release says NORAD has conducted similar exercises in the United States and Canada since the start of Operation Noble Eagle, the command’s response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
