BARRE, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont police chief is looking into a negative comment one of his officers made on Facebook about people walking on Interstate 89 the day of the Women’s March and rally in Montpelier.
The Times-Argus reports (https://bit.ly/2jmFACm) Jason Fleury, who works as the school resource officer at Barre City Elementary and Middle School, posted a message Saturday about the traffic congestion. Demonstrators overwhelmed the small city, causing traffic backups on the interstate that prompted police to close exits in and around the city for a time.
The paper reports Fleury referred to people walking on the interstate as “dumbasses.”
Barre Police Chief Tim Bombardier said Fleury has since taken the comment down after he realized it was inappropriate.
Email and Facebook messages seeking comment were sent to Fleury on Tuesday.
