GRANTSBORO, N.C. (AP) - A prosecutor in Pamlico County says a man is facing up to 25 years in prison on a number of charges, including voluntary manslaughter for the death of his 8-month-old son.

WNCT-TV in Greenville reports (https://bit.ly/2koSnFW) District Attorney Scott Thomas said in a news release Tuesday that 26-year-old Samuel Tyler Potter also pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, attempted first-degree murder, felony breaking and entering and felony larceny.

According to Thomas, Potter admitted giving a dropper full of Benadryl in 2013 to his 8-month-old son, who had been agitated and crying. Court records also show Potter mixed Benadryl in his son’s formula.

In 2014, Potter was accused of attacking a bondsman with a machete and then attempting to shoot him. He had been in jail for stealing firearms from his grandfather.
