TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A former University of Arizona professor accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the school has been sentenced to six months of probation and ordered to pay more than $83,000 in restitution.
John Marchello was sentenced Monday in Pima County Superior Court.
He pleaded guilty last August to one count of felony theft.
County prosecutors agreed to drop nine other charges against the 81-year-old Marchello as part of the plea agreement.
Authorities said from January 2013 to November 2014, Marchello stole more than $220,000 from the student-run meat market in Tucson that he oversaw.
He was indicted by a county grand jury in April 2015 and resigned.
Marchello was a tenured professor of animal sciences who worked at the university for nearly 50 years.
