LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police have released a security camera image in an effort to identify and find an armed robber sought in a botched weekend jewelry store heist that left a clerk dead from what police characterized as a wayward shot by a security guard.
Henderson police Officer Scott Williams said that nothing was taken during the robbery at a Jared store near the Galleria Mall, which was interrupted by a single shot fired by the guard that missed the robber and hit Kimberlee Ann Kincaid-Hill.
Kincaid-Hill, 57, of Henderson, died late Saturday of a gunshot to the chest, the Clark County coroner reported. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Williams declined Monday to identify the security guard, who police said was not charged with a crime.
Henderson police said they intend to seek murder and attempted robbery charges against the man when he is located.
State law allows prosecutors to hold a defendant responsible for the death of another person in the commission of a felony.
The store remained closed Monday, and calls to telephone numbers associated with Kincaid-Hill went unanswered.
Police said the would-be robber wore a red and black hooded sweatshirt, a black mask and other dark clothing.
He displayed a handgun but did not shoot, and fled on foot from the store on busy Sunset Road. He has not been found.
Williams declined Monday to disclose whether anyone else was in the store at the time.
