HOUSTON (AP) - Windy weather has left thousands of homes in the Houston area without electricity as strong gusts have knocked down power lines.

CenterPoint Energy reported Sunday more than 30,000 customers were without power. That figure continued to steadily drop throughout the day as work crews fixed downed power lines.

The National Weather Service reported gusts of up to 45 mph in some parts of the Houston area on Sunday. The strong winds also knocked down some fences and damaged trees.

The weather service has issued a wind advisory for Southeast Texas until 5 p.m. CST on Sunday.

On Saturday, windy weather in El Paso, including gusts of more than 60 mph, left hundreds of homes without electricity. By Sunday, most homes had power restored.
