CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Authorities have released the names of two brothers in a suburban Philadelphia fire and said the blaze had been ruled accidental.
Police in the Delaware County city of Chester said Saturday that the midday Friday fire killed 49-year-old Steven Demby and 35-year-old Sherman Demby.
In a statement, the department said the blaze started in the kitchen near a chest freezer and the cause may have been electrical.
The mother of the victims discovered the flames but was prevented from making it upstairs because the blaze was so intense, so she exited the building and called 911, officials said.
“She was able to tell us where she believed her sons were in the house, which helped us to locate them,” Battalion Chief Steve Quigley told the Delaware County Daily Times. “There was a lot of fire. We were able to locate them within six or seven minutes of our arrival, but they had already succumbed.”
The fire gutted the building and damaged the rear of a neighboring building that was under renovation, officials said.
