President Trump has a new Twitter account under @POTUS, but nearly an hour after he was sworn in Friday afternoon he was still using his old account, @realDonaldTrump, to connect with his people.
Just after 12:50 he began posting a series of tweets with parts of his inaugural address.
“We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth — and we will bring back our dreams!” he said, deploying the first exclamation point of his new life as president.
Mr. Trump also has control of the White House’s main account, @POTUS, taking over from former President Obama. The outgoing president’s account shifted to @POTUS44.
Mr. Trump had yet to post from his new White House account, but he was still quickly building a following, adding some 500,000 followers in one 10-minute period. He stood at 3.9 million followers as of 1 p.m.
Mr. Obama, too, was still gaining followers to his accounts, but at a far slower pace. His still-active campaign account, @BarackObama, is the juggernaut of accounts, with more than 80 million followers.
