President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama greeted President-elect Donald Trump and incoming first lady Melania Trump at the White House Friday morning, in keeping with a transition tradition.

Under cover from a light drizzle, the Obamas greeted the Trumps at the North Portico of the White House, shaking hands, exchanging hugs and smiling for photographers. Mrs. Trump brought a light blue box, apparently a gift from Tiffany’s.

Vice President Joseph R. Biden and his wife, Jill, also greeted Vice-president elect Mike Pence and wife Karen. All four couple were to have tea at the White House before proceeding in a motorcade to the Capitol for Mr. Trump’s inauguration.

Also attending the White House reception were congressional leaders, including House Speaker Paul D. Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer of New York and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California, and their spouses.
