Failed presidential candidate Sen. Bernard Sanders said the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on Friday represents “a tough day for millions of Americans,” but he urged his progressive supporters to keep fighting for their values.
In a video posted to Twitter, the Vermont independent implored liberals not to give up, even though Mr. Trump is poised to take the White House and the GOP controls both chambers of Congress.
“Today is going to be a tough day for millions of Americans, including myself, but our response has to be not to throw up our hands in despair, not to give up, but in fact to fight back as effectively and vigorously as we can.” Mr. Sanders said. “And we are going to go forward in the fight for economic, social, environmental, and racial justice. That’s who we are, that’s what we are going to do. We are not giving up.”
Unlike many of his colleagues in the House who boycotted Friday’s inauguration, Mr. Sanders is in attendance.
