DENVER (AP) - Amtrak is moving half of its Denver-based train crew to Lincoln, Nebraska, in an effort to cut costs.
The Denver Post reported Thursday (https://dpo.st/2iJuAQR ) that the relocation affects conductors and engineers working on the California Zephyr east of Denver. Train service will not be interrupted.
Company spokesman Marc Magliari, if all 21 employees agree to move there will be no layoffs and the company could save nearly $1 million annually.
The relocation is the latest in a string of hits Colorado’s train industry has taken. Union Pacific eliminated 200 jobs when it shuttered its Burnham Shop repair yard last February after the demand for coal trains decreased.
