Alec Baldwin, who for the past few months has portrayed Donald Trump in sketches on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” took to Twitter after the president’s swearing-in to proclaim the country “lost.”
“All of the jokes/parody/comedy aside, let’s stop for a moment to take a full account of where we are,” said the actor via his Alec Baldwin Foundation Twitter account shortly before 1:30 p.m Friday. “This country is lost. It’s in trouble.”
Mr. Baldwin was a featured speaker at Thursday night’s anti-Trump “We Stand United” rally in New York City, where he amused rally participants with his Trump impersonation, People magazine reported.
After working in character for a while, Mr. Baldwin seriously addressed the gathered protesters.
“Donald Trump and Steve Bannon and Mike Pence and all these people that are part of the Trump Administration, they think that you are gonna lay down,” Mr. Baldwin told the crowd, reported People. “The one thing they don’t realize is that New Yorkers never lay down.”
