WASHINGTON (AP) - Officials say a 34-year-old inmate in the D.C. jail has died of an apparent suicide.
The Washington Post reports (https://wapo.st/2iB1fXN ) the man was found unresponsive in a cell Saturday night. A statement from the Department of Corrections says officers tried to resuscitate him and he was taken to George Washington University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead that night.
The statement does not say how the man, identified as Harold Scales, killed himself or what evidence investigators have collected.
According to the newspaper, Scales was being held in the general population area. He pleaded guilty in December to assault with a dangerous weapon and was awaiting sentencing.
