MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) - City officials say a 13-year-old girl was unintentionally shot to death over the weekend in a northern New York City suburb.
Officials say Shamoya McKenzie was a passenger in a car driving in Mount Vernon on Saturday afternoon when she was shot in the head. She died at a hospital.
Police say a 28-year-old Mount Vernon man also found at the scene was shot in the arm. Officials say he was hospitalized and is expected to survive. His name wasn’t immediately released.
Officials say they have no details on suspect.
The Journal News reports McKenzie was an eighth grader at Graham School in Mount Vernon. She played on the school’s basketball team.
WNBC-TV reports more than 100 classmates and community members remembered McKenzie on Sunday at Mount Vernon High School.
