CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - In a story Jan. 19 about Gov. Chris Sununu writing a letter to Congress about health care, The Associated Press reported erroneously who the letter was addressed to. Sununu sent the letter to House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, not Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu is asking Congress to give states as much flexibility as possible to design their own health care systems as part of the federal effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
“We urge Congress to untie the hands of the States,” the Republican governor wrote in a Wednesday letter to U.S. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy. “Let us have the flexibility to design a New Hampshire system for New Hampshire citizens.”
McCarthy is soliciting feedback from governors as Congress pursues changes to the health care law. Sununu’s letter also urges Congress to avoid “onerous regulations” on states. But his letter notably leaves out mention or comment on the future of Medicaid expansion. New Hampshire’s former Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan worked with the Republican-led Legislature to use federal dollars to expand Medicaid to roughly 50,000 people.
Some GOP governors, such as Ohio’s John Kasich and Michigan’s Rick Snyder, are urging Congress to keep some form of Medicaid expansion even as they repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Republican lawmakers in Concord want more freedom to make modifications to Medicaid expansion, such as including a work requirement for recipients. The federal government has so far rejected such efforts.
Sununu ends the letter saying he hopes for a health care system that lowers costs, improves outcomes and promotes greater freedom and flexibility.
