MEDIA, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania woman has been convicted of third-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old son.

The Daily Times reports (https://bit.ly/2jPlLBH) 31-year-old Shannon Matthews, of Norwood, was found guilty Wednesday of third-degree murder, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child in the 2015 death of Mason Hunt.

A Delaware County judge sentenced her to 20 to 40 years for the murder along with up to eight years for assault and five years of probation for endangerment.

Police say Matthews hit Mason causing hemorrhaging around his intestines and lacerations to his liver. Deputy District Attorney Michael Galantino notes that the child’s days-old injuries could have been treated.

Matthews acknowledges she made poor decisions but denies killing her son.
