NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Natchez city and Adams County officials want to take direct control of construction of a public pool.

The city Board of Aldermen and county Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday in a joint meeting to ask for temporary control of the property from the local school district, taking over the project from the Natchez-Adams County Recreation Commission.

The Natchez Democrat (https://bit.ly/2iBTVvN) reports Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis says unless the city and county take over, pool construction will be delayed.

Recreation Commission Chairman Tate Hobdy says he’s “disappointed” in the actions of the two bodies, saying the commission didn’t want to be rushed into the project improperly.

Officials say they’ll give the pool back to the recreation commission to manage after it’s complete.
