Academy Award winner Jon Voight told throngs of attendees at the Make America Great Again Welcome Celebration on Thursday that their prayers helped usher in a Trump administration.
President-elect Donald Trump’s pre-inauguration festivities at the Lincoln Memorial kicked off with thanks to God and condemnation of media “propaganda.” Mr. Voight, known for roles in “Midnight Cowboy,” “Deliverance,” and a host of other films over the course of decades, received applause from the crowd for his observations on the 2016 U.S. presidential race.
“We have all been witness to a barrage of propaganda that left us all breathless with anticipation not knowing if God could reverse all the negative lies against Mr. Trump, whose only desire was to make America great again,” the actor said. “He certainly didn’t need this job. And yes, God answered all our prayers because here it is — we will be part of history. All of us.”
The actor then added that President Lincoln was surely “smiling” in heaven because America “will be saved by an honest and good man who will work for all the people, no matter their creed or color.”
The stalwart supporter of Mr. Trump then introduced Grammy Award winning singer Sam Moore for his rendition of “America the Beautiful.”
Some of the other performers who agreed to attend include country singer Toby Keith and the rock band 3 Doors Down.
