President-elect Donald Trump made another pitch Thursday for the Senate to speed his Cabinet picks through, saying he’s assembled the smartest team in history.

“We have by far the highest IQ of any Cabinet ever,” he said at a pre-inauguration lunch.

His nominees are moving slowly — even those who appear to face little political opposition — but Mr. Trump said he was happy with how they did. He ticked off their names to the crowd at the lunch, offering his thoughts on their performance.

For Betsy DeVos, his pick to head the Education Department, he seemed to dismiss complaints that she was going to upend the bureaucracy with a radical approach to schooling.

“It’s called, ’We want our children educated,’ ” Mr. Trump said.

He also had special praise for Sen. Jeff Sessions, the Alabama Republican he’s picked to be the new attorney general.

“He will be one of the outstanding stars of this country, and he’s legit all the way,” Mr. Trump said.
