OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Ocean City has run into roadblocks as it tries to honor the city’s police force by painting a thin blue line on the street in front of the city’s police headquarters.

Ocean City Police Public Information Officer Lindsay Richard tells the Daily Times of Salisbury (https://delmarvane.ws/2iNUoWR ) that the city’s plan to paint the blue line down the center of a street is on review after the Federal Highway Administration recently admonished several New Jersey towns for painting similar lines.

Mayor Rick Meehan was inspired to do the project by Ocean City, New Jersey, which painted a blue line last fall.

The Federal Highway Administration says changing markings on the center of a street could confuse drivers and pose safety hazards. The color blue is also reserved for handicapped vehicles.
