CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois State Police say three people have died following an early-morning crash on the Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago.

Police say the single-vehicle crash happened about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday on the outbound lanes of Interstate 290 near Western Avenue. According to a preliminary investigation, the 42-year-old man driving the car lost control, went off the roadway and hit a utility pole.

Police say the driver was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and a third was pronounced dead at a hospital.

One victim was identified by the Cook County medical examiner as 41-year-old Henry Brooks of Chicago. The names of the other victims were withheld pending notification of relatives.

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
