LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a Los Angeles Police Department officer has been convicted of sending lewd text messages and photos to a teenage police cadet.
Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer says Officer Abel Montes De Oca was found guilty Tuesday after a five-day trial.
Investigators said the 32-year-old officer began sending the lewd messages to the 16-year-old girl in 2015 while supervising her as a police cadet. They say after investigators learned of the relationship, Montes De Oca tried to delete photos and messages from his phone and told the girl to do the same.
Feuer says Montes De Oca is being held on $100,000 bail. The name of his attorney wasn’t immediately known.
The LAPD did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his status with the department.
