Hollywood producer-director Judd Apatow says that President-elect Donald Trump is causing him to stress eat.

The New York Times’ Maureen Dowd recently flew out to Santa Monica, California, to meet with Mr. Apatow, a long-time Democratic Party activist, over his social media “spiral” since Election Day. The industry insider said that thinking about the 45th U.S. commander in chief has him struggling to keep off weight.

“It’s very hard to lose weight in the Trump era,” Mr. Apatow said, the newspaper reported Jan. 14. “I’m trying so hard to have it not turn into 30 pounds. I think it tests our ability to not want to numb out. There’s so many things that are hard to hear every day that you do want to have some Oreos. Like people say, what do you invest in during the Trump era? I feel like, Hostess Cakes. Most of us are just scared and eating ice cream.”

The director added that because he is concerned about being seen as a “crank,” he is trying to “transition from making comments on social media to choosing one or two organizations to work with and support so that I feel like I’m actually being a positive part of the process.”

Mr. Apatow has been a persistent critic of Mr. Trump for months, going so far as to cast critics of last summer’s female-led “Ghostbusters” as Trump voters.

“I would assume there’s a very large crossover of people who are doubtful ’Ghostbusters’ will be great and people excited about the Donald Trump candidacy,” Mr. Apatow told Uproxx on June 1, 2016.

The Paul Feig directed movie went on to gross $128 million domestically on a budget of $144 million dollars. The Hollywood Reporter noted in August that a $70 million loss on production and marketing costs likely doomed any chance of a sequel.
