One of Hollywood’s most popular stars now says industry “bullies” helped elect Donald Trump.
Zoe Saldana is known to millions of fans as Gamora in Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies, but she made it clear on Jan. 13 that she does not want to be seen as a “bully” in real life. The Hollywood star weighed in on President-elect Trump and “arrogant” peers Friday while promoting her new film, “Live By Night.”
“We got cocky and became arrogant and we also became bullies,” Ms. Saldana told Agence France-Presse. “We were trying to single out a man for all these things he was doing wrong … and that created empathy in a big group of people in America that felt bad for him and that are believing in his promises.”
“I’m learning from [Mr. Trump’s victory] with a lot of humility,” Ms. Saldana added before her AFP interview wrapped up.
The actor’s comments came the same day another Hollywood celebrity with links to Marvel, director Joss Whedon, wished sexual assault upon House Speaker Paul Ryan.
“Violence solves nothing. I want a rhino to f—— @SpeakerRyan to death with its horn because it’s FUNNY, not because he’s a #GOPmurderbro,” Mr. Whedon tweeted Dec. 13.
Mr. Whedon created the pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC Save The Day as a means of thwarting Mr. Trump’s presidential ambitions. He enlisted the likes of actors Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle and others to help him achieve his goals.
“Live By Night,” which was directed by and stars Ben Affleck, will begin its wide-screen release Jan. 13. The film opened in select theaters on Christmas Day.
