CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Jurors have acquitted a man in a cockfighting case that put his then-girlfriend on probation.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/2jebEGA) Luis H. Carlos-Garcia had also been arrested on a probation violation that was put on hold during the trial.

His attorney could not be reached.

Laramie County District Attorney Jeremiah Sandburg said after the verdict that officials felt the case was strong enough to go trial.

Deputies and animal control officers seized 75 roosters from a Cheyenne property in December 2014.

Louisa G. Carlos pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor rather than the original felony animal cruelty charge.

She was sentenced last year.

Part of her sentence required her to pay more than $4,000 in restitution for the birds’ care.
